Pahlaj Nihalani feels targeted

Central Board of Film Certification Chief Pahlaj Nihalani feels targeted for merely doing his job. The past few weeks have seen a bitter battle between the Film Industry and the Government- run CBFC.

While CBFC was of the opinion to have no Punjab reference in the film and suggested 13 major cuts with 94 minor corrections, therefore ready to pass it with an 'A' post the amends. The makers of Udta Punjab were hell bent on retaining the original content of the film.

The HC bench slammed Pahlaj Nihalani for his unnecessary demands and for giving undue leverage to the film. The justice bench has strictly said ' Censor' is a term provided by the media whereas the CBFC's job is to only provide certification.

Film fraternity wants the Chief Pahlaj Nihalini to be dismissed from his service. Adding to the outrage, Pahlaj Nihalani said, "“I am not answerable to the film industry. If the government asks me to step down, I’ll do so. I’ve been doing my job honestly and sincerely. No producer can claim his film was delayed because of the CBFC. There is zero corruption in the CBFC and we are working towards online certification. I am happy with my performance in the CBFC. For those who are unhappy with what I’ve done I’ve no apology to offer. Don’t target me for doing my job.”

However, he respects the decision taken by the High Court and will abide by it
