Is Shahid Kapoor's character Tommy Singh based on Yo Yo Honey Singh? 

There are way too many similarities between the reel & real rockstars Yo Yo and Tommy Singh. Rumors of the sudden disappearance of Yo Yo also suggested, it may be due to his admission in a de-addiction center. 

Tommy just like Yo Yo is super famous in Punjab and is a great influence to the youth of the state. The looks may differ, but small nuances like chains, loose clothing have been retained. 

Shahid added, "Obviously he’s a big star in Punjab and that’s the only parallel that you can draw with Yo Yo Honey Singh.” The actor however said his character was fictitious and added, “The character that I play is a rockstar who’s a cocaine addict so I wouldn’t want to draw any parallels. And if you see the look of the character and how he is, I don’t think he looks like Honey Singh.”

Besides their surname, city where the two are most popular and profession, everything else is fictitious.
