Happy Birthday Shahid – Looking Back at some of the gems he acted  in.

As the stunner and ace artist, Shahid Kapoor turns 35 years old today, we look back at some of his best work in films.  With a career ranging over a decade, Shahid has managed to find his distinctiveness as an actor and continues to enjoy varied roles as a lead man. Barely has he disappointed his fans and enjoys a great loyalty among his admirers.

        1.       Haider (2014)

A brilliant adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet starring top notch performers in the likes of  Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan, Narendra Jha, Shraddha Kapoor had its Title Role, ‘Haider’  executed by Shahid Kapoor.
By virtue of his father’s disappearance, Shahid enacts a stress disorder rather well. He exposes his      uncle, Khurram’s cruel intents that led to his father’s death. The film gives out a strong message that, ‘Revenge only results in revenge’.

      2.       R.Rajkumar (2013)

Shahid represents a small-town youth as Rajkumar. Aimless he lands at Shivraj’s (Sonu Sood) doorstep, seeking an employment. Helping the drug baron Shivraj compete with his arch rival Manik ( Ashish Vidyarthi), Rajkumar maintains his loyalty with his employer. Fate gets  Shivraj and Rajkumar to love the same woman Chanda ( Sonakshi Sinha) and they end up fighting for her. The film did decent business at the box office and was popular for its songs, Gandi Baat and Saree Ke Fall Sa. Shahid was seen as a small town local for the first time.

      3.       Kaminey (2009)

A tale of two twin brothers, Guddu and Charlie, one has a lisp while the other stutters, played incredibly well by Shahid Kapoor. Kudos to him for pulling off two different characters in one narrative. Charlie a small time criminal needs his cocaine to sell, which was stolen off corrupt cops while Guddu needs to win his Sweety ( Priyanka Chopra)’s hand in marriage. Estranged brothers meet in a thrilling climax to decide their fates.  A box office winner!

 4.       Vivah (2006)

Shahid played the role of Prem, a love-struck yet shy boy from Delhi who is all set to marry Poonam ( Amrita Rao) in a traditional arranged set up. However, a few days before the wedding, Poonam meets with a huge accident as she suffers burns all over her body. Despite her ill-health, Prem marries her informally in the hospital. Vivah was a blockbuster hit with Shahid managing to carry the legacy of Prem in Sooraj Barjatya’s films.

     5.       Jab We Met (2007)

A wealthy business man Aditya is frustrated with his job and his recent break-up, he boards a train randomly to find a girl named Geet ( Kareena Kapoor) who is full of life as company. A cute one-sided romance ensues between them, but her love for Anshumann gets them to separate briefly. They unite later to realize their true feelings for each other.  Jab We Met was Imitiaz Ali’s most noteworthy work. Shahid was accepted as a mainstream hero upon its release.

We congratulate Shahid for delivering such diverse performances and wish him the best ahead!
