Irrfan Khan questions the practice of Qurbaani / Sacrifice

In a recent press conference for his film Madaari, Actor Irrfan Khan brought up the issue of Ramzan Fasts and how Muslims practice slaughtering to be known as pious.

He mentions its high time to introspect and not give into these unnecessary sacrifices. He stated the act was ancient as in the olden times a goat was the prime source of food and hence, donating it over meals was fine.  It was a superior act as people distributed their most valuable food then.

However in times we live in now, it is irrelevant as it's no more the only food we consume. So the whole practice is futile as we need to sacrifice something which is close to our heart.
The ritual is losing its true meaning.

The Muslim clerics have demanded an apology from the actor and taken major offense for this opinion. They advise Irrfan Khan to only focus on his career and not make naive statements on religion.
